Nonlinear Optical Bistability in Metagratings
Explore how light can control light, with no electronics required. This project develops a unified analytical and numerical platform for metagratings – engineered periodic surfaces – whose diffraction response switches between two distinct states based on the intensity of the incident beam. By incorporating Kerr-type nonlinear materials into the metagrating design, students will model, simulate, and characterize optical bistability, opening pathways to all-optical diffraction engineering for applications of beam steering and dynamically reconfigurable optical systems.
